DeClutter Like a BOSS!!

declutter_2-364x212Clutter… we all have it in our lives one way or another. Clutter can be make our lives very unproductive and can cost us money. If there is clutter around, it can take a mental toll on you and provide a source of irritability. However, with spring here now is the time to declutter and get rid of what we have been trying to toss away for months. There are a few things one can do to make this process bearable and more manageable.

So if you are ready to this is can be a lot easier than you think. Follow these true and tested tips to jump start your way to a more clutter free area.

  • Follow the one in and three out rule: If you get or buy anything new then you must get rid of 3 things in the same category. You can either recycle, donate or trash.
  • Don’t Store beyond your space: The best way to keep you area declutters is purge as you go along. Do not store more than you have the space for. This will keep your home uncluttered if you store less than your space.
  • Color Code Your Closet: In your closet it is best to group apparel buy color. That way you don’t buy too many black shirts and it will make the purging of your clothing much easier.
  • Sort the Fridge: In your fridge you should group foods in designated baskets that way you don’t over buy. If it does not fit in the basket you just don’t need it.
  • Put hard-to-reach storage to work: It is best to use hard to reach storage for special occasion pieces and not items that are for everyday use.
  • “File” everyday shoes: If your closet on the small side, consider putting flat, flip flops and sneakers vertically in a basket to help save space.
  • Ditch packaging ASAP: As soon as you buy something new, get rid of packaging unless you have plans to return it. No need to hang on to it.
  • Opt for paperless manuals: Recycle you manual. Now you can find PDF versions online and make less waste for you.
  • Organize first, then declutter: To make organizing and tossing easier, pile things in categories that way you can decide what you want to keep.
  • Toss excess office supplies: Make sure you don’t have an excess amount of office supplies on your desk for instance. If you have more than you can use store them away.
  • Purge idle projects: Many times we take on more than we can chew. If you have projects that have been sitting around it is time to get rid of them and forget about keeping them around “just in case”
  • Make things visible: Use storage bins that show what is inside. Kids need to see where things go and that way they know where to store them.
  • Use the right-sized containers: Don’t store items in a large container because more than likely you will not want to rummage through it. So break it up into smaller containers.
  • Conquer your inbox: Digital clutter can also weigh on you. Give yourself 15 minutes a day to go through your inbox and place spam filters so you don’t get unwanted email.
  • Use the rule of four: It is good to have a master to do list, however you never want to overwhelm yourself so it is best to just have a “Today” List and more 4 items to that list to get done.
