Take Me Out to the Ballgame! This is what El Pasoans will be singing very soon with the “Grand Opening” of the new Triple A Ballpark in Downtown El Paso. Many El Paso residents are eagerly awaiting opening day in order to welcome their new team and stadium.
The city of El Paso held a “name the team” contest to decide the team’s nickname. There were thousands of entries but at the end, the winning name was, you guessed it, “The El Paso Chihuahua’s”.
They are the Triple A affiliate for the The San Diego Padres
It has been interesting to see the ballpark go from City Hall to demolition to construction. Unlike some of its detractors, I am looking forward to the opening of the Downtown Ballpark. The arrival of our new Triple A ball team can only move the city forward. So much good can come from the April 28th opening including new economic opportunities along with the revitalization of downtown.
Having lived in Dallas for the past 12 years and seeing the growth that a city can have by building infrastructures via stadiums or seeing growth around different areas of town, I have no doubt that the City of El Paso, especially downtown will be “revitalized”.
