New Homes In El Paso 2014 & Building Trends

by Joe

In recent years, there have been many changes when it comes to Real Estate trends. Many housing experts have noticed the shift in construction of homes to a more contemporary look.

However, that does not necessarily mean you’ll be seeing these types of homes in El Paso.  But more builders are experimenting with contemporary finishes. Some of those trends are listed and explained below.

Features such as Austin stone,  and standing seam roofs are becoming quite common. This was especially evident in the North Texas regions where I began my career as a real estate agent.

Unique Flooring Options

When considering flooring options many are choosing woods with a lighter, more natural finish. Many interior design experts have noticed that white, gray and washed out finishes are making a comeback. In more expensive contemporary homes, you will still see the hand scraped wood floors.

With the move toward the engineered woods, this will not necessarily be cheaper. However, if you are looking to stand out with a twist in flooring think about bleached, limed or fumed woods with a matte finish.

To achieve a more modern contemporary look, many builders are choosing open concept floor plans such as kitchens that open into dining areas or family rooms. This is a fantastic option for those that like to entertain.

Doors

Additionally, many homeowners are adding an abundance of glass slide doors. This is designed in an effort to bring the outdoors in.

When considering the design of your kitchen, granite was among the high end choice for countertops. However, granite is not considered a premium feature in homes anymore. Instead, open your horizons when choosing countertops. To bring a more sleek look into your modern contemporary kitchen, consider engineered stone. This may be the element that will set your kitchen apart from the rest.

Appliances

Stainless steel appliances are now the norm when looking to buy a new home. However, like granite countertops, there are other options. Consider glassed appliances in all black, white or chocolate. Although it may be considered a design risk, it will make your kitchen look contemporary.

There are a few builders here in El Paso that are taking steps toward changing the landscape of home building. I truly hope that a more contemporary style infiltrates El Paso with the benefactor of this shift being new home owners in the area.
